“If I were a Pilates exercise, I would be the backstroke. I imagine myself effortlessly floating in the ocean while gliding my arms and legs in a perfectly circular and coordinated pattern, making it look easy – but it’s so not!”
Teacher, PMA, The Pilates Center Master’s Program
Greta was born in Sacramento, CA and raised in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Her childhood was very active – running around barefoot, playing in trees, swimming, dancing and practicing gymnastics. She danced throughout college at UC Irvine and in New York. During that time, she was introduced Pilates and yoga and quickly became impressed with the physical skill, focus and control that it took to achieve each exercise or posture. Greta is a classically trained and certified Pilates and Yoga instructor with over 14 years of experience. I love teaching because there are great moments when students master skills, connect to their bodies in new ways and develop more strength, coordination and control than they’d originally thought possible.
“If I was a Pilates exercise I would be Swan Dive on the Wunda Chair. I like challenging myself where I’m weak and engaging my whole self in the effort!”
Teacher, Pilates Academy International
Jennifer is a passionate yogi, a Pilates method practitioner and instructor and has an infinite love for all things that connect the mind and body. She received her Pilates mat and equipment certification through Pilates Academy International. Growing up training in gymnastics and dance, movement has always been her medium. She uses this background to create unique sequences and routines that are meant to feel good and flow well in the body. While fitness was always her gateway, Jennifer knew it was only one piece of the “healthy life pie”. Jennifer is a also a health coach, with the principals of love and compassion for oneself as the foundation of her work.
“If I were a Pilates exercise, I would be swimming. My favorite place to be is by the ocean. Plus the exercise is in an extended spinal position – a heart opener. Your strong center and core engagement are what allow the limbs to be able to move freely and explore space. The relationship between “groundedness” and flight and freedom in discipline are what I live by.”
Teacher, Balanced Body University, STOTT
Krysti moved from Olympia, Washington to Sacramento to study kinesiology, when she discovered her passion for Pilates. She completed her certification through Balanced Body and is continuing a secondary certification through STOTT. She enjoys dissecting each exercise and focuses on technique to maximize benefit for each student individually. Pilates helps her escape the wandering chaos of the modern world and experience the moment. Krysti is also an avid rock climber and loves the outdoors.
“If I were a Pilates exercise, I would be a teaser. To perfect a teaser, there needs to be a strong sense of physical awareness, strength and flexibility. Exercises that require mental acuity and physical challenge help me train for activities, such as, rock climbing and hold my focus.”
Teacher, PhysicalMind Institute, OTD
Carlin grew up in Wisconsin and moved to Los Angeles during college to pursue a professional dance career. She was originally drawn to Pilates over 15 years ago as a way to heal and protect her body. Carlin completed her Pilates mat and equipment certifications through the PhysicalMind Institute. She used her training as a way to help maintain both her physical and mental wellbeing throughout graduate school.
Carlin received her Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from the University of Southern California, specializing in Lifestyle Redesign® and workplace wellness. In addition to being a licensed occupational therapist, Carlin is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) and a graduate of Loyola Marymount University’s Yoga Therapy RX Certificate Program. She loves the experience of helping people better manage the stress of daily life while finding more length, strength, and control within their bodies.
“If I were a Pilates exercise, I would be coordination. It’s specific, fun, and combines a little bit of several different things. I like to keep it interesting!”
Teacher, ITT Pilates
Christi was raised in Hawaii. She received a BFA in Dance and BS in Mathematics from UC Santa Barbara. Christi was certified in the Bay Area with Jean Sullivan and Ashley Beldon and spent a year apprenticing with Lara Hudson at Mercury Fitness in San Francisco, eventually becoming a teacher trainer.
She approaches the work from the perspective of both an engineer and an artist; dissecting the mechanics of each exercise and pursuing the beauty of each movement. All that and a gentle touch, too. Crafting a nurturing, yet challenging hands-on style of teaching, which allows students to push past their thresholds and embrace new strength and grace.
“If I were a Pilates exercise, I would be semi-circle. I’m a sucker for the geometric reference. The spinal articulation is so yummy as you move fluidly through both flexion and extension. How often do you get to dip down into the well? It’s a fountain youth!”
Stephanie Van Alen
Certified Massage and Fascial Stretch Therapist
Since she was a child, Stephanie has been gathering tools to guide people toward health and wellness. Stephanie first approached the wellness path through the lens of an artist – painting the human form and learning anatomy and structures of the body. She later became curious about the inner workings of muscles – why we hold tension, and how tension in the muscle fibers is related to our mental and physical health.
Stephanie studied kinesiology, anatomy, and pathology at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego. She received her massage therapy certification from the National Holistic Institute and spent years studying Eastern and Western modalities – Swedish, Deep Tissue, Shiatsu,Thai, Hot Stone, and Prenatal massage techniques, and most recently, Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST).
Stephanie’s approach is holistic – she uses FST and a blend of other Eastern -Western bodywork modalities, creating a session based on what her client needs.
To learn more about FST and schedule your introductory bodywork session, hang tight. Booking will open in May.
