Studio Policies

  • Students 14 – 17 years of age may attend group classes with a signed waiver by a parent or guardian.

Students under the age of 14 may not attend group classes. Students 12 – 13 years of age may only attend private sessions with a signed waiver by a parent or guardian.

*All waivers must be signed in-person at Humani Pilates.

  • To book classes or private sessions, you must purchase a session prior to booking. See our cancellation policy before booking your first class or private session.

  • We try to create the kind of space where students can leave their day to day at the door and focus on themselves. We ask that you do not talk or text in our classrooms.

If you need to make an emergency call, please do so quietly outside of the studio or in the lobby. Photos are encouraged, but make sure you’re taking photos of yourself, or have the permission of others if they are in the shot. Feel free to take photos before and after class (not during) and don’t forget to tag us @humanipilates.

  • Our teachers lead classes with compassion and safety in mind for you and everyone else in your class. With that, we believe in empowering you to grow your practice at a pace that is safe and appropriate for you in a group environment.

We recommend all new students begin with a Machines 101 Class, Private Sessions, or Level 1 Foundations Classes.

Level 1 classes are perfect for students who are new to the practice, or who have been practicing Pilates for less than a year at Humani.

All Levels classes are mixed level classes, which includes people at various stages of functional skill development and experience with Pilates. These classes are taught at a beginner to intermediate level, providing various movement options for various points on your movement journey. These classes move at a faster pace and are more complex in choreography than Level 1 classes.

Level 1.5 and Level 2 classes are intermediate to advanced levels only. They go into more advanced choreography and exercise transitions. In order to keep a moderate pace through class, you are required to attend multiple All Levels classes before joining Level 1.5 or 2, even if you’ve done Pilates elsewhere before joining our studio.

Important: during Level 1.5 (intermediate) and Level 2 (advanced) classes, students will be guided through all planes of movement, including standing, kneeling, sitting, weight bearing on wrists and knees, and laying on the stomach, chest, and back.

Because the choreography is complex, for your safety and the faster flow of the class, we ask that you are able to bear full weight on all portions of your feet and wrists (i.e. planks).

If any of those positions are uncomfortable for you, or you are actively working through injuries, attend our All Levels classes instead.

  • Humani has a 12 hour cancellation policy for all group classes. Cancellations made with less than 12 hours notice will result in the loss of a credit for all students. If you are not going to make it to class, please cancel at your soonest convenience to allow another student to take your spot.

Absences to class without a cancellation (i.e. “no-show’s) result in forfeiting the class and a $10 fee. No exceptions.

  • Private, semi private, and private event sessions have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Log into your online account to make the cancellation in real time. Do not email a cancellation request to ensure that it is processed right away (during the cancellation window). If you need to cancel or miss your session outside of the 12 hour window, you will be charged for the full cost of the session or one will be deducted from your package.

  • We provide a 10 minute grace period for late arrivals. Please make every effort to arrive on time. After 10 minutes, you will not be able to enter the class.

  • Humani is not responsible for items lost, misplaced, or stolen while visiting a studio. If we find an item that was left, we will put in in our lost and found. If you think you may have lost something while at the studio, check the basket next to the shoe cubby in the lobby. We will hold any items left behind for 2 weeks.

  • If you do not cancel your reserved class or private session, and do not show up for your reservation (“no-show”), you will forfeit that class/session, and it will be deducted from your account.

You will also be charged an additional $10 fee for group class no-shows.

There are no exceptions to this policy.

  • We are located in a primarily residential neighborhood with free street parking. In addition to Markham street, there is free street parking on both sides of 21st Street.

  • Each student is required to have a credit card saved to their account. We automatically charge $10 for each class no-show so it's important that we have access to a saved payment method on each client's online Mindbody account.

If you do not save your credit card on file and have outstanding payments* we have not been able to reconcile within 5 days of notifying you, your account will be put on hold and you will not be able to sign up for future classes or private sessions until payment is reconciled.

*Outstanding payments include unpaid classes you were added to from waitlists and any automatic $10 no-show fees.

  • There are no refunds for the purchase of classes and private appointments. If you are no longer able to use your services, we can refund the remaining value as a credit to your account which may be applied to retail, gift card purchases, or we can transfer that credit to another student.

All purchases are subject to a price adjustment after 365 days. All private session packages expire after 365 days.

  • You are welcome to try on any of our clothing items before you purchase. There are no returns or exchanges of clothing, skincare, exercise equipment, props, food, or any other retail items, even if they have not been used, worn, or opened.

  • It is your responsibility to inform our staff when you become pregnant. All pregnant students are required to schedule a private session during their second trimester (14 – 27 weeks) before continuing on with regular group classes.

After completing a private session, you can attend Machines Level 1 or All Level Classes, and Prenatal Group Classes only. No Machines Level 1.5, Level 2, or Mat Classes.

In order to maintain a safe and comfortable experience for all students at Humani, after 32 weeks of pregnancy, students will be limited to private/semi-private sessions, or prenatal specific classes, and unable to participate in regular group classes.

Visit our prenatal page for resources and info about our upcoming prenatal specific classes. You can also e-mail schedule@humanistdudios.com for availability.

  • Our system will automatically add you when a spot opens up. You will then receive a text notification. You have 2 hours to reply to the text message, to confirm or deny your spot. Reply “N” as soon as you can, if you do not want to attend.

If you do not confirm your spot, you will be automatically taken out of class and the system will move on to the next person in line. Check your MBO account if you’re not sure whether you were added to a class or not.

Please take yourself off the waitlist for classes you do not want to attend, to avoid “no show” charges.
